IIT Kharagpur's 2,100-acre campus in West Bengal — India's first IIT — is the largest IIT campus by area. Branch-specific facilities span 19 academic departments and 13 schools/centres including Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Chemical, Architecture and Regional Planning, Mining, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology and Geophysics, Biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering, the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (IIT-KGP is the only IIT with a Law School), Vinod Gupta School of Management, Centre for Educational Technology, Centre for Cryogenic Engineering and many more. The Central Library is one of India's most comprehensive engineering libraries with 4,80,000+ volumes. Sports facilities are extensive — multiple cricket and football grounds, swimming pool, athletics track, multiple indoor sports complexes, gymnasiums and IITKGP's distinctive Hijli Detention Camp (a heritage building serving as the institute's main administrative block). Transport: dedicated buses connect campus to Kharagpur railway station.
