IIT Guwahati runs an extensive on-campus hostel system on its 700-acre campus on the banks of the Brahmaputra. 13 hostels (Brahmaputra, Dihing, Lohit, Disang, Kameng, Subansiri and others — named after rivers of the North-East) house students by gender and academic year. First-year B.Tech students typically get double-occupancy rooms with single rooms from the second year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹40,000-65,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options across hostels with student-elected mess secretaries; menus include North Indian, South Indian and Assamese-North Eastern specials. Wi-Fi, hot-water geysers, gymnasium access, study lounges, common rooms with TV, washing machines and CCTV-monitored entries are standard. The campus has comprehensive dining including IITG Convention Centre, Cafeteria and several student-run tea-snack outlets. The Brahmaputra-side campus offers spectacular views and a unique academic atmosphere.
