CIT is a private self-financing engineering college founded in 2001 under the Sri Channabasaveshwara Swamy Rural Education Society (CRED Society, established 2000), led by Chairman Sri G.S. Basavaraj (Hon'ble former MP, Tumakuru). The institute is AICTE-approved (Permanent ID 1-2623001; EoA 2025-26 granted 03 January 2025 vide File No. South-West/1-44643695007/2025/EOA), ISO 9001:2015 certified, and NAAC-accredited with Grade B++ (CGPA 2.99) per homepage disclosure; Cycle 1 peer team had awarded B+ (CGPA 2.53) valid till October 2022 and Cycle 2 renewal validity is to be verified on the NAAC portal. CIT participates in NIRF (Institute Code IR-E-C-1312) but is not currently ranked in the top 300.
