IIT Roorkee runs 12+ on-campus hostels (Bhawans) on its 365-acre campus including Cautley, Ganga, Govind, Jawahar, Kasturba, Radhakrishnan, Rajendra, Ravindra, Vigyan Kunj and several others. First-year B.Tech students typically get double-occupancy rooms with single rooms from the second year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹40,000-65,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Each Bhawan is largely self-governing with elected presidents and mess secretaries. Mess service includes vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options. Wi-Fi, hot-water geysers, gymnasium access, study lounges and CCTV-monitored entries are standard. The Roorkee winter is cold (down to 5-7°C December-February) so warmer bedding is recommended. The campus has comprehensive dining including the IITR Convention Centre and several student-run tea/snack outlets.
