Hostel at IIT Kanpur 2026 — CollegeAndFees

IIT Kanpur runs a substantial on-campus hostel system on its 1,055-acre Kalyanpur campus. The 13 hostels — Hall 1-13 — house students by gender and academic year. First-year B.Tech students typically get double-occupancy rooms with single rooms from the second year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹40,000-65,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options at separate counters across hostels, with student-elected mess secretaries managing menus. Wi-Fi, hot-water geysers, gymnasium access, study lounges and CCTV-monitored entries are standard. Each hostel is largely self-governing with elected presidents and secretaries managing student affairs. The campus has dining options including the IIT Kanpur Convention Centre, Cafeteria and several student-run tea/coffee outlets. No formal curfew given the senior-cohort culture.
