Research at IIIT Guwahati 2026

IIIT Guwahati drives focused research across AI/ML, IoT, smart cities, signal processing, networking and cybersecurity, natural language processing for Northeast Indian languages (Assamese, Mizo, Manipuri, Bodo), computational linguistics and biomedical signal processing. The institute houses Centre of Excellence in AI and Robotics (sponsored by MeitY), the Centre for IoT and Cyber-Physical Systems, the NLP-for-NE-Languages Lab and the Cyber Security Research Centre. Faculty publish 140-160 SCI/Scopus papers annually with research grants from DST, MeitY, DRDO, ISRO, SERB, North Eastern Council and Assam State Council on Science and Technology totaling INR 10-14 crore at any given time. The institute has filed 35+ patents across image processing, NLP, IoT systems and biomedical devices. Active partnerships: Tea Research Association (Assam tea industry collaboration), NHPC, Indian Oil Corporation Northeast, ISRO, DRDO and BSNL. PhD intake is 30-35 scholars annually. Operates 4 international exchanges (NUS, KAIST, Tribhuvan Kathmandu, NTU Taipei).
