IIIT Allahabad ranks among India's top research-driven engineering institutes. Active research thrust areas include AI and machine learning, computer vision, IoT and edge computing, networking and cybersecurity, signal processing, biomedical informatics, robotics, and natural language processing for Indian languages. The institute houses Centre of Excellence in AI and Robotics (sponsored by MeitY), the Centre for Information Hyperhighway (research in 5G/6G networks), Bio-Medical Imaging Centre (DST-funded), and the Cyber Security and Information Security Centre (NCIIPC partnership). Faculty publish 280-310 SCI/Scopus papers annually with research grants from DST, MeitY, DRDO, ISRO and SERB totaling INR 24-30 crore at any given time. The institute has filed 95+ patents across image processing, NLP and sensor systems and licensed 18 to industry. Active industry-academia partnerships include collaborations with Samsung Bangalore, Microsoft Research India, Adobe Research, Intel, Tata Steel, ISRO and BSNL. PhD intake is 60-70 scholars annually, with monthly fellowship of INR 31,000-35,000 + HRA. The institute operates 5 international student exchange agreements (Carnegie Mellon, NUS, KAIST, ETH Zurich, RWTH Aachen).
