IIT Madras runs an extensive financial aid programme. SC/ST students receive full tuition waivers plus the Central Government Post-matric Scholarship covering hostel and mess fees. Students from families with annual income below ₹1 lakh receive 100% tuition remission; those between ₹1-5 lakh receive 67% remission. Defence wards qualify for the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme through the Sainik Welfare Board. The Merit-cum-Means scholarship covers ₹1,000 per month plus tuition for the top 25% of students from low-income families. AICTE Pragati for girl students and AICTE Saksham for differently-abled students are accepted. KVPY and INSPIRE fellows continue to receive their fellowships during B.Tech. The IITM Alumni Charitable Trust runs additional need-based scholarships. International undergraduate students from select developing nations qualify for ICCR scholarships. Education loans through SBI, Canara Bank, IDBI, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, Avanse Financial and Auxilo are facilitated by the institute's financial-aid office.
