IIT Hyderabad ranks #7 in NIRF Engineering 2024, exceptional given the institute's young age. Research is uniquely strong in Cyber-Physical Systems, Smart Grid Technologies, Climate Change, Biomedical Engineering, AI-ML and Materials Science. The institute hosts the Centre for Excellence in Smart Grid Technologies, Centre for Healthcare Entrepreneurship, IITH Foundation for Innovation and Knowledge Park (iTIC, IITH's incubator), Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems and the Centre of Excellence on Quantum Technologies. The institute files 50+ patents annually with publications in Nature, Science, Physical Review Letters, IEEE Transactions, ACM and top Springer/Elsevier venues. Major funding from DST, AICTE, MeitY, DBT, ISRO, DRDO and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA — IITH was established with substantial Japanese collaboration). Industry partnerships span Hitachi, Toyota, Honda, Sony, Toshiba, Microsoft, Google, Bosch, Tata Group and many deep-tech startups. International collaborations centre on Japanese universities (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tohoku, Kyoto, Nagoya) alongside MIT, Stanford and ETH Zurich.
